Class Description

Take a journey with us through a variety of literature including nonfiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, poetry and their impressions on us individually. Students will be exposed to a variety of literature but have the opportunity to choose what interests them most! Students will freely express themselves through journal writing several times a week while we begin to organize our thoughts and writing in the classroom. We will start with the very basics of writing and then gradually move through learning introduction, body and conclusion. We will explore narrative, persuasive, expository and creative writing. Our adventures will take us to a world of literary expression where each of us will find our own personal island!

Students should have a relatively strong grammar and spelling background. They should have a basic working knowledge of sentence structure but our goal is to meet each student where they are and grow their reading and writing skills through captivating interests and enhancing strengths.
